SES Home Services Provide Support for Local Historical Venue

Bore Place, a historic 500-acre estate and farm in Kent, was facing some issues with its drainage system. SES Home Services believe in supporting the local community when possible, so with our knowledge in drainage services we stepped up to the task.

At SES Home Services, we value our local community and are always seeking ways to offer support when we can. Bore Place, a historic 500-acre estate and farm in Kent, was facing some issues with its drainage system. Some of the team at SES Home Services and SES Water had volunteered their time to help plant some new hedgerows on the grounds prior to the drainage issues coming to light. Some weeks later, Heather reached out to us with concerns of increasing water levels in their lagoon, a place to store and repurpose water which has been contaminated within the cattle sheds and surrounding yards. Heather is the Farming, Nature, and People Together Programmes Manager at Bore Place, playing a very key role in maintaining the grounds.

After some investigating, SES Home Services found a number of contributing factors as to why the lagoon water levels were rising. There were blocked gutters that were directing rainwater onto the yard rather than the storm water system into a culvert, taking it back out to the road network. As a result of a CCTV survey, a collapsed 150mm diameter rainwater drain was identified, which during heavy rainfall was backing up and overspilling water back into the lagoon. One section of barn roofing was found to have its rainwater collection points discharging back into the lagoon as well, further contributing to increasing levels which could’ve bene directed back into the culver instead. A full report was issued back to the team at Bore Place setting out routes cause and remedial actions that could be taken, which are now in the process of being actioned.

Here’s what Heather had to say about our work at Bore Place:

"The SES home services team have been so helpful in the investigative work that they have undertaken at Bore Place to help us understand some of our drainage issues. They have been friendly, communicative, and keen to assist us in any way that they can, kindly volunteering their time and expertise to help us to pinpoint issues and help outline our options to resolve them. We are very grateful for their help and support, and they have enabled us to take the next steps in improving our water management on a varied site with many factors to consider."

These works will enable Bore Place to continue upon its journey of being more water efficient and effective with its reuse.
